The Heald Street Townhouses were the first newly constructed scattered sites public housing in Wilmington’s history. The six unit townhouse project replaced 11 dilapidated units on North Heald Street and complimented other new units built in the area.
Units are part of WHA’s Section 32 Homeownership Program and available for purchase by income eligible families. WHA offers a myriad of self-sufficiency programs to residents living at Heald Street including homeownership counseling and preparation. As a result of the Heald Street development effort, WHA reduced neighborhood density from eleven to six units – a reduction of 45%.
